Reflect the Father
Growing up I got a lot of comments of how I looked like my dad, it was dreadful and unavoidable. I Also disliked when people claimed I resembled others, I truly wanted to look like my self!
Wherever I went, from primary school up till now there’s the need or this desire for people to travel down that path of conversation. My facial expression tends to bring them to a sudden halt on that journey of theirs.
I guess, maybe it’s just my way of thinking correct me if I’m wrong. We all want to be ourselves, no resemblance of other . I think there’s also big problem with that mentality, we have to look like someone.
I love how even our very genetic make up anchors the idea that we are not islands. We are all connected, children are made of millions of genes inherited from their parents which are either expressed or not. This how we can fit in with the family in terms of physical and sometimes emotional characteristics. Hence comments such as “you have your mums legs” “you and grandma act similar” or “you look like your dads side of the family” (this is usually said when one does something wrong) whatever it may be the comments link an expressed trait in one person with another person that is usually much older.
With this small picture in mind, God’s very desire is expressed greatly! We are created in his image and likeness (Genesis 1: 26-27) I know God is Spirit therefore we can’t reflect him in our physical appearance however, what a blessing it would be for people to meet sons and daughters of God and utter words that please the father : “you remind me of someone” “something about you reminds me of God” “you act so much like God”. The very person of Jesus encapsulates this greatly in his very own words, written in red to remind us of his blood shed he said “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” John 5:19 KJV.
If we ought to be like Jesus who is God (John 10:30, John 1:1, 1John 6:7 + many more) then we must, with everything within us reflect the very image and likeness of God. How bizarre it would be for us to stand in front of a mirror and our image is altered?!
So why as the heirs, very sons and daughters of God do we stand before the world and not reflect our Father? You may ask what does this like look? Reflecting God that is, in the most simplest explanation exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) Love, Joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, long suffering, faith, meekness + self control. For if we truly abide in the true vine, as branches we ought to bear fruits.
For if a father or mother passes on their genetic make up onto their offspring and with no choice it must be expressed. Why do we strive to express the image of our Heavenly Father? for one day we and our parents will return to dust and our souls will live with our one true father for eternity. It’s only right we reflect Him!
Delight in reflecting, long to run to the waters and your image is one with God, desire to be known as an offspring of God. The 9 fruits are seeds planted by the Holy Spirit promised by the Son who is the word spoken by the Father. To bearing fruits! To reflecting!
I pray this blesses you and remind you that those who do not bear good fruits will be axed and thrown in the lake of fire (Matthew 3:10), So may we bear fruits even till he returns. God bless you 💓
