Anatomy glorifies Jesus

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Adrenaline or epinephrine (for the Americans) is a hormone that is produced by the adrenal glands that is located on top of the kidneys. Fun fact: The adrenal glands are mentioned for the first time in Exodus 29:13

“And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭29:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Amazing, right? Back to adrenaline, this hormone is responsible for flight or fight responses the body may exhibit. Why the biology lesson? I promise it will make sense, trust me. So the other day my friends and I were speaking about how people have over performed because of  adrenaline. For instance, one could be shot and keep on running not realising they have been shot or even stabbed. I have heard of stories that people have jumped from buildings to escape horror stories and upon coming to safety they realise their legs are broken. Adrenaline is such a fascinating hormone.

So what’s the link? I promise I’m getting there! In the shower where I have my greatest and lowest thoughts, my brain cells colliding with ideas ready to be birthed nerves travelling incredibly fast just to have a brain fart or problem solving thought. It hit me! Not like a slap but a wow, when Apostle Paul says he has fought the good fight and he has ran his race (flight).

What if, just if the Holy Spirit is our adrenaline that we should rely on that as we run this race we depend on him so even through the attacks we keep running not being affected. The moment we stop running or say no to the Holy Spirit that’s when we become aware of the impact we could have taken. Unlike adrenaline requiring a stimulant the Holy Spirit resides in us and He is active, in our race, our spiritual warfare, our destiny and even the little things like catching the bus.

An amazing friend of mine told me that prophet Elijah ran 20miles! (1 Kings 18:46) he out ran the chariots, reminds of psalm 20 which says some trust in chariots… I will allow you to complete the rest. That could have only been the power of God, how much now? When we have till the very end to run? Our comforter and helper will complete the good work he has started. We are only, just, common, undeserving vessels that the Holy Spirit is so gracious enough to dwell in. Yield beloved, rest child, hide in him that lives! For just as Apostle Paul fought the good fight, ran his race so will it be if we choose to abide and yield.

The Holy Spirit is far greater than adrenaline that God designed! I love how even anatomy glorifies Jesus.

I pray this blesses you as it blessed me, always remember that even in the humour filled conversation there’s still something to take from it.

God bless you, be Jesus focused and may the Holy Spirit keep and guide you. 💗
