With every essay at university, comes the numbers at the end. These can range from 2,500 words to as little as 500 words. If essays were a product, the cost at which it’s bought is the amount of words. Therefore, words is the currency. Words make the world go round.
Going over or under the word count can affect the grade attained massively. You would think if the content makes up for it,it’s excused. Ultimately, the word count determines the whole essay. Is the introduction more or less? That’s down to the word count.
When a word count isn’t given, it like taking the student to an unknown location and leaving them with no means of them getting back. What?! There’s no word count? How? Although, everything regarding the essay is there. The word count acts as a guide.
As humans, actually as Christians followers of the one true God. The one who numbers the hair on our head. He who has plans greater than the number of sand, He who multiples. Blessed a generation to be as many as the stars. Do we have a word count?
What are words? Scrambled letters glued together to make a sound when Uttered, with the power to build or destroy. With a roll of the tongue, the mouth opens to shoot.
“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”
James 3:5 KJV
Without your tongue, speech is impossible. It’s like having a pen with no ink.
Back to the question at hand do we have a word count as humans ? Death brings about the cap. I believe the better question is, does God care about our words? If rephrased, do our words count ? The short answer is yes!
“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”
Matthew 12:36 KJV
If your words were to be recorded in the Bible, what lesson would they teach? The words of Eve recorded (approx 50 words) are with the serpent or in relation, the words of Mary (2734 words) are glorifying God. The words of Jesus, they give life, they challenge, they are promises and teachings. The word of God made flesh.
Do your words count towards life or towards death? Can someone identify you as a Christian from your words?
“Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?”
James 3:9-11 KJV
In the very beginning, God existed out of time for He is eternal. He said, let there be light and there was light. Created in his very image and likeness, the temple filled with his Holy Spirit through the believe in Christ. Why do you not allow your words to count ? In darkness our father spoke light, in chaos we ought to speak peace, when hated we are called to love in action and in words.
“The average woman speaks around 5000 words per day whereas the average male speaks around 2000. Apparently” how many of those words edify and how many of those destroy. We are called by a Holy calling and our conversations should set as example.
I will leave you with this “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
James 1:19 KJV
If your voice doesn’t cry out for others to know Jesus is the way, if your tongue isn’t stimulated by love to roll out words which will build, if your speech has a hint of evil, if your lips drip with honey that seduces. Check your heart, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
May our words count, for when death brings the cap on our words. The final word count, God will hold us accountable of our speech. I pray Jesus be the focus, for if the eye be single the whole body will be full of light so will our speech be. In Jesus name!
